Playtime

A couple of weeks ago we had an hour to kill while we waited for James at school.  It was a day that he only had one class.  So, we dropped him off and headed to a park near campus that I found on Google maps.

The kids had a great time playing that morning.  We had the playground to ourselves too!

Thanksgiving dinner was great - although fast.  The food was good and Matthew was doing this . . .

So I actually got to sit at the table and eat with everyone else!

I came across this picture of Andrew that I don't think I posted yet.

He's a bandit - in case you couldn't tell!

James is in his last week of regular classes and has finals next week.  Then he gets a long break.  He deserves it!

We got our tree even earlier this year.  For the past several (maybe 9) years, we've been getting our tree on the day after Thanksgiving - give or take a day.  Well, since we moved to Baton Rouge, Thanksgiving got a whole lot busier with Camp Meeting activities.  It's a lot of fun, but very busy.

So, we decided to get the tree a week early.  It will probably be a naked tree by the time Christmas comes around having dried up and lost all of the needles, but right now it's beautiful.

See that sled in the front?

It's from Great Grandma Berg's Christmas tree.  Love it every time I see it.

We spent a lot of the afternoon getting ready for tomorrow's meal.

 Making bacon for cheesy potatoes.

Celery, onions and sausage for stuffing.

The girls make a pumpkin pie.

Now it's the boys' turn to try and make a pie.  Jon is holding onto that bowl for dear life.

They look a little bit unsure.

Check out the amazement on Andrew's face as he pours in more of the milk.

Faith chunking up the bread for stuffing.

Someone give that baby a crust of bread so we can get something done.

Cute baby with bread.

More of the cute baby with bread.

Leftover pumpkin pie filling . . . more on this later.

Girl pie on the left, boy pie on the right.

Home made stuffing (without the giblets - blah!!) - can't wait!!

So, most everything is ready.  I have potatoes boiling and will mash them up tonight.  We'll also put the turkey in the roaster tonight late.  Should be a great meal!

Videos

We're sick.  Well, some of us are.  Matthew, Alyssa, Jon, Peter and Faith have been sick.  It's going on two weeks now.  Andrew's doing fine and James might be just beginning to get it.

Some kind of crud.

Sore throat and cough - and Matthew had fever too.

So,

We interrupt our regularly scheduled blog posts to bring you a couple of exclusive Smith videos.

And also because I didn't think you'd want to see pictures of dirty Kleenexes and some of us in our jammies.

This first one is Andrew saying the pledge of allegiance.

The next one is Matthew playing.

Hope you enjoyed the videos and hope that we'll be all better soon!

P.S.  Quote of the day from Jon:

"Which is worse, blowing up or getting punched?"

I know what I said.  What do you think?

Brian Bowls

Last Friday afternoon, Brian went bowling with some of the people from his work.

He came home with a friend.

It was a trophy he won for "most mechanical arm".

I'm not kidding :)

Kinda cute!

On Saturday we went to our favorite pizza place

 Papa Murphy's!

Where some of the kids watched them make our pizzas.

The end.

Winner, Winner Chicken Dinner!

Last Friday when we went to pick up James, there was a crowd around the tiger lair.  This usually means that Mike is off his duff for the moment.  There was also a prime parking spot in the visitor's section.  And, guess what?  Everyone was dressed - including shoes!!  I parked quickly, paid for the spot and we crossed the road to get a look.

None of this for us that day.

We saw things like this:

And this:

I tried to get some pictures of the kids with Mike as he passed by.
I had limited success at this.

I took a short video though:

Celebrating LSU's win against Alabama's Crimson Tide last weekend too!

MANCAKES

Yes, you read that correctly.  Mancakes.  Brian made breakfast for the kids last Saturday.  It was great!  We had pancakes mancakes.

Mancakes are huge pancakes - for men!

A little whipping cream and strawberries to go on top.

Andrew has his and Peter wants one too!

Jonathan has his.

Not sure if you can tell, but he ate a hole right in the middle where the whipped cream was.

Peter's and Andrew's weren't quite as big.  But yummy just the same.

Mancakes - try 'em sometime!
