Happy Easter!

Matthew 28:1-6

King James Version (KJV)
28 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.
2 And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.
3 His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:
4 And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.
5 And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.
6 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

Matthew's Birthday

Matthew turned two years old this week.  We celebrated on Friday with lunch and cake.  I took a few pictures of him before he opened presents.

I love this one.  So serious!!

Then it was time for cake.

He told me he wanted a Ninja cake.  So I made a cake to look like a Lego Ninja guy.

Here is a video for all of you long-distance people who couldn't be with us to celebrate.

Then Daddy told him he could taste the frosting!

So he did!

He had a good party and got lots of presents.  Thanks to everyone who sent cards and gifts!!

Stay tuned for some random pictures including chair shopping with Peter.

Backyard Building

Another email blog post here.  Trying with multiple pictures this time.  I'm thinking they are going to be placed together at the beginning of the post because I'm just attaching them to the email.  Not as neat as posting directly from Blogger, but it's an easy way to blog the pictures from my phone.

Anyway, James broke the playhouse slide a number of weeks ago.  We thought about just replacing the slide, but then decided to go with monkey bars to add a different dimension to the playhouse.  We attached them but they were just too high.  Andrew was a bit too short to safely go across without someone to "spot" him.  So, we added a lower deck to the playhouse and attached the monkey bars to the new addition.

Now we're happy because it's safer, Peter can now get down from the playhouse and Andrew has new blisters from going across the monkey bars so much :)

P.S.  Star-tip wood screws are the BEST thing eva!!

I am testing a blog post from my email.  This is a picture of Matthew at the library.  When James has his English class, we spend an hour at the library reading and/or doing homework.

A Year of Recipes, Donuts and Flowers

I signed up to receive emails from Pillsbury and as a bonus I got a free calendar for 2013.  Free calendar right??  Well, every month has a recipe so we decided to make each recipe.

The goal is to make the recipe before the end of the month.  We've done well so far but, it's only March.

The recipe for March is a Meyer Lemon and Strawberry Tart.

Pretty good reason to buy a tart/quiche pan if you ask me.

Preparing the crust.

Cleaned and sliced the strawberries and juiced the lemons.

Lemon filling

Ready to chill in the fridge.

It was pretty good.  Peter didn't like it but he had just woken up from a nap on the couch and said that the banana stuff tasted funny.  I don't think his brain was ready for lemon.

Alyssa gave me a donut maker for my birthday.

Donuts

I took the camera out front to take some pictures of the spring flowers.

These are on the tree in the front flower garden.  They smell like dried shrimp.  Ewwww.

Thanks for reading!

Stay tuned for some pictures of the boys and what we're planning for this weekend.

Friday Fun

The kids and I went out yesterday to take care of some business.  We had a package to send and some other things to do.

We stopped at Papa Murphy's to pick up some pizza.

Then we stopped at Target for a couple of things.

They had these - I had never heard of them.  Tall cans.  I didn't buy any but I'm usually surprised to see new products out there.

Brian and I went out to Parrain's Seafood to celebrate a friend's 50th birthday party.  He's originally from Duluth, MN and his uncle had traveled all the way from Duluth.  Us Minnesotan's have to stick together.

It was a surprise party so we were there early and waiting in a back room for the honoree.  He was surprised to see us all - his jaw dropped when he saw us and we all yelled a hearty 'surprise!'

We ordered a couple of different things to share.

We started out our meal with Turtle Soup.

Tasted like chicken.  It was good.

Brian ordered something called the Delacroix   It was fish with shrimp and garlic mashed potatoes.  It was great and we shared it.

I ordered a burger with double extra cheese and it also was supposed to come with fries.
They came and told me that someone else was given my burger so we got some complimentary hush puppies to hold us over.

My burger finally came and it was huge.

I cut it in half so that Brian could share.

The burger was delicious.

Had a good dinner out, got to meet a Minnesotan and celebrate a friends 50th birthday.  It was a good time.

This morning Brian and James scooted off to an auction to see what was good and I had the boys wash the car.

They did a pretty good job.  I had to fill in a little bit and had Alyssa also out there to help.  Only three of us ended up soaked.
