Tonsils Part II

Today is day 6 following Matthew's tonsillectomy and adenoid removal surgery.

Here's an update. . .

We skipped breakfast and headed out to the surgery center early Wednesday morning.

We waited patiently to get checked in.

We got matching bracelets at check-in.  Last time that happened was when Matthew was born!

Yay, bracelets!

They also gave us a pager that would let us know when it was our turn to head to the staging area for surgery.

Soon it was our turn and we headed back to get a new outfit.

He looks good.  I told him he looked like a doctor.

Still smiling!  Watching cartoons while waiting to be brought back for surgery.

Soon we parted ways.  I had to return to the waiting room where I called Brian to give him an update.

And then I headed to the gift shop to buy Matthew some balloons.

About 1/2 hour later the pager went off and I saw the surgeon who said Matthew had done great!  A few minutes later it went off again and I got to see him in recovery.

Poor buddy was a bit sad while trying to wake up.  I held him in the rocker until he felt a bit better.  Pretty soon he wanted to go home and see Daddy.

We made it home where Brian picked him up out of the car and placed him on the couch for his first of many bowls of ice cream.

This week Matthew has spent a lot of time on the couch.

We set him up with a little bell to ding when he needs something.

He dings it a lot - but Grace does too!

Chocolate ice cream and his buddy make him happy.

His other favorite soft food is macaroni and cheese.

A typical lunch this week:  Apple juice, mac n cheese and a pudding cup.

He has been doing really well.  The difference between his breathing at night before and after surgery is amazing.  He has been handling the pain well and he's on an antibiotic to avoid infection.

He has a post-op checkup with the surgeon on Thursday morning.  :)

We celebrated Matthew's birthday yesterday.  He turned the big Oh-Four.

He requested a Nerf cake.

Turned out pretty good!

Haircuts

Saturday was haircut day - times 5.

I went with Brian and all of the boys (except Peter) to Sports Clips.

Ready to begin.

Jon is done.

Brian, Andrew and James in the hot seats.

Its tough getting your hair cut.

But it can also make you sleepy if it takes too long.

All done!

Treats for good boys.

The crew.

Stay tuned for more!

Haircut and a Job

It has been awhile since Matthew had a major haircut.  Usually I just give him a little trim now and then.

I decided it was time to do something since it was getting pretty long.

Come along for the ride . . .

Before - he looks thrilled here.

During - he looks a little scared here.

After - I think he likes it!

One of his brothers tied that around his head to turn him into a ninja.

In other news . . .

Yesterday James started his first job.

He's working with Brian this summer, gaining some experience, and earning some money.

Serious Software Developers

REALLY serious!

When they got home we all went out to greet them.

Well, he's smiling!  Must have been a good first day!

Stay tuned for details of Andrew's 7th birthday party!

Laundry and Haircuts

So, it was time to wash some sheets and blankets.  I decided to try and take three loads to the laundromat to get it all done at once and because one of the blankets is HUGE.

So, Brian took James to a meeting and then took Jon and Andrew out for haircuts and I took the rest to wash blankets.

Peter liked the front loading washers.

And the front loading dryers.

Daddy's blanket is still washing.

When the laundry was done we went back home and soon Brian came back with the boys.

Here are Andrew and Jon with their new hair cuts.  They're about to get wet on the slip n slide.

Here they are playing in the mud that results from any type of water fun in the backyard.   Jon is being a Mud Monster.  He said they eat turkey sandwiches - and people.  YIKES!

And here are a couple of close ups of the littlest boys from this morning.

Early Birthday Fun!

We decided to have a little party for Matthew yesterday so that we would have more time to celebrate.  His real birthday is Wednesday and we're most likely going to have a little cake that night too.

This was the weather forecast.

Besides that pesky flood warning, it doesn't get much better than that.

We had big plans for our day.

First we turned Matthew's car seat around so he's facing forward now.

We went to City Park for a picnic.  We hadn't had a picnic at the park in a long time.  We brought sub sandwiches, cheese sticks, chips, juice boxes and fruit snacks.

Then we went to play.

After we played for a little while we went home for presents.

He was a bit perplexed and the boys had to open the presents for him.  But that's pretty typical.

Here is a video after he was done opening presents.

Then it was time for cupcakes and ice cream.

Alyssa baked cupcakes last night and she and Faith put rainbows on the top.

His expression is so funny because he looks a bit confused!

Here's the video.  It sounds like a crowd is singing to him - but it's just us!!

We sang and then I blew out the candle for him because he didn't know how to do it.

Then the kids played outside on a new slip-n-slide.

He had a lot of fun.

We bought some bubbles to play with too and Matthew thought they were so funny.

Then baths for everyone and a nap for Matthew.

Hard to believe he's turning one already!
